Donor Relations Development Director - Hybrid (Finance)



Description

In this key role, you'll lead the development and execution of a donor relations strategy that weaves together compelling storytelling, thoughtful branding, content creation, and targeted outreach. Your work will directly support our Foundation's impact-strengthening donor engagement and helping amplify the stories behind every donation that saves lives. This position blends strategic fundraising with high-level communications to build meaningful relationships and elevate the visibility of our mission.

As a Donor Relations Development Director, you'll get to:
  • Develop and lead marketing and communications strategies that drive donor engagement, brand awareness, and fundraising success.
  • Create and oversee impactful content across print, digital, social media, video, and events to highlight the Foundation's mission and donor impact.
  • Manage the design and delivery of donor communications, including newsletters, appeals, stewardship reports, and annual giving materials.
  • Ensure brand consistency and alignment by collaborating with internal teams and external creative partners.
  • Oversee the Foundation's digital presence-website, email campaigns, and social media-to keep messaging strategic, timely, and donor-focused.
  • Partner with the Foundation President to implement communication-driven donor acquisition, stewardship, and retention strategies.
  • Plan and execute donor-centered events, tours, and campaigns that build lasting relationships and communicate impact.
  • Leverage donor insights and data to tailor communications and enhance engagement.
  • Participate in Foundation-wide planning and contribute to strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor trends and performance metrics to continuously refine marketing and communication strategies.
  • Ensure all donor-facing materials reflect Vitalant's values, voice, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Vitalant's marketing, communications, and donor recruitment teams to align messaging and efforts.

Requirements

Knowledge/ Education

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, or a related field, required.
  • Master's degree, preferred.
Experience
  • 7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit marketing, strategic communications, and/or fundraising, ideally with a strong focus on donor communications, require to include experience successfully building and executing marketing campaigns that drive donor engagement and fundraising success, required.
Skills/Abilities
  • Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling donor narratives.
  • Experience managing digital tools including email marketing platforms, CRM (e.g., Virtuous), and social media channels.
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Experience working with graphic designers, printers, photographers, and videographers to produce high-quality donor
  • Occasional travel for donor engagement, including overnight.
