Assistant Professor - Artificial Intelligence (AI) (Finance)

Department: Dean, Law Salary: Commensurate with experience
Description:

The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a Presidential Frontier Faculty (PFF) tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in the academic year 2026-2027. The PFF program is a university wide integrated interdisciplinary hiring campaign that is overseen by central university leadership and encompasses hiring a large cohort of convergent research faculty to work on artificial intelligence (AI), health, energy, sustainability, security, and other topics. The PFF program envisions a candidate with specific expertise in the legal policy and information law areas relating to AI.

Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) and should demonstrate the potential for success as a scholar, teacher, and future member of the UH and the Law Center's broader community.

The primary teaching focus for the position is to cover courses related to AI, including the base copyright course at the Law Center. Upper-level course teaching options are flexible. Willingness to teach elsewhere in the Law Center curriculum, including 1L courses, courses covered on the bar exam, or other upper-level topics, is also a positive factor.

Other criteria relevant to this hire include: grant acquisition experience; government service or private practice relevant to AI; and other work on AI in a legal, technological, or policy capacity. The position will teach three courses each academic year during the pre-tenure period. Post-tenure Law Center teaching workload is an average of ten credits per year for productive scholars. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at the Law Center and other UH colleges who specialize in AI.
