Head of Sales Enablement - GICG (Finance)

Role/ Department:

The Asset Management Division of Northern Trust is global leader in multi-asset class solutions with expertise in index, active, quantitative, liquidity capabilities and alternative investments.

The Head of Sales Enablement will lead a team whose primary goal is to help develop key initiatives related to business development, and lead and/or support the generation of new commercial activity which help grow revenues and/ or assets under management across the GICG. The role reports to the Head of the Global Institutional Client Group and is a member of the GICG Executive Committee.

The hire will work closely with the Sales and Relationship Manager teams, including Associates to develop or manage various functions involved in the timely and efficient execution of activities that support sales and client experience.

The functional areas of focus for this role are:

  • Business intelligence - identify various data sources for industry information, competitive insights, and market intelligence and work with appropriate teams to help procure and deliver key information related to prospects and clients to Sales and RM teams.
  • Channel (client type) intelligence - help identify, assess, and procure relevant industry, trending, and competitive information by channel.
  • Product marketing / development input - help design targeted product sales campaigns based on strategic plans and opportunistically based on market news to pursue increased commercial impact. Help establish and maintain key feedback loops.
  • Client strategy development and accountability - Work with Sales and RMs to create client mapping for all top tier clients and client action plans. Support teams during the year as execution occurs.
  • Optimize client coverage - work with Head of GICG and Team leads to make smart, efficient decisions on resourcing for client coverage.
  • Support the Alternatives partnerships - provide perspectives and various support as may be required in the pursuit and execution of Alternatives partnerships being pursued.
  • Metrics Management and Reporting - help maintain timely and accurate reporting of financials related to key Sales/ RM events.
  • Events - Support conference planning and other event requests vs budget and agreed on priorities. Help assess conference effectiveness and ROI for determination of continued commitment or withdrawal.
  • RFP Team Management - the new hire will manage or support the team that responds to the RFPs including helping to ensure processes are optimized and the team is appropriately resourced.

In the fulfilment of the role, the new hire will:

  • Be guided by the Head of GICG to whom the role reports and participate in her Team Lead and Exco meetings,
  • Work effectively with the Regional Heads and Team Leads, and stakeholders such as Marketing, Client Portfolio Management and Portfolio Management, and Operations to successfully deliver on the key functions above and receive their feedback for future development.
  • Work closely with other senior leaders to help ensure GICG's key priorities and execution are aligned with the key leadership around the firm.
  • Develop a strong network across NT through intentional engagement and regular communication with peers in Asset Servicing and Wealth Management
  • In general, support the head of GICG in execution of strategic priorities especially the key strategic initiatives that have been identified to the organization and the pursuit of the vision and mission.

Skills/ Qualifications:

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Masters or CFA a plus but not required.
  • Greater than 10 years work experience
  • Experience having led business development, sales teams, or strategic client programs before
  • Deep understanding of the asset management industry including public and private market asset classes
  • Proven experience working with high performing teams.
  • Proven ability to work well horizontally and vertically.
  • Ability to lead by influence as well as directly.
  • Experience working in a complex and matrixed team.
  • Willingness and inclination to lead and work well with team.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated as well as ability to motivate others.
  • Creativity and willingness to innovate.
  • Ability to work under time pressures both individually and as a team member
  • Experience in providing a high level of service to key clients both reactively and proactively.

Salary Range:
$164,600 - 288,000 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
