Summary of Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for pursuit and execution of competitive development programs. You will be responsible for shaping technical solutions while maintaining commercial viability of the product(s) which will require ability to manage both technical and business aspects of pursuits. Due to the strategic nature of the programs, you must be comfortable presenting and interfacing with C-Suite leadership at Elbit and beyond. Execution will require proactive, hands-on engagement with customers, teammates, and supply base with focus on win-win solutions. You will be expected to tailor, implement and adhere to disciplined program execution and best practices as defined in Elbit's PMx and aspire to set the bar for program excellence.

You will be expected to maintain transparent comms with all teammates and remain focused on constructive, data driven solutions to technical and programmatic challenges inevitable with development programs. Steady, no-drama, cross-functional leadership and emphasis on problem-solving culture will be critical to success. Position will report to Sr. Director of SlingWorks where we mature and de-risk development programs in support of our businesses.

The position will be based at the Elbit Systems of America office in Merrimack, NH with regular domestic and international travel as per the nature and requirements of the role.

Responsibilities and Tasks (listed in bullet format) in order of priority to be successful

  • Champion culture of execution - working within budget, working within customer driven timelines and overall program and project management excellence.
  • Develop cross-functional plans, optimize available resources to fulfill commitments to customers and ensure satisfaction with Elbit performance.
  • Provide strong, visible, and inspired leadership to all employees, including both business segment and assigned functional staff, promoting and maintaining strong employee morale. Establish high expectations for all employees regarding meeting performance objectives and adhering to company values.
  • Build and nurture an organizational culture within the business segment that is aligned with the Company's vision, mission, and values. Establish a culture of excellence - quality, collaboration, innovation, passion, customer focus, continuous improvement. Model behavior for others and hold the team accountable to operate in a manner consistent with them.
  • Perform his/her duties following prudent and ethical business practices and other business policies and procedures as established by the Company and the Department of Defense.
  • Proactively engage in talent recruitment, development and retention.
  • Ensure that Elbit Systems of America meets all government and corporate regulations and policies on an ongoing basis.
  • Represent Elbit America to and effectively communicate and liaise with customers, suppliers, partners, employees, government authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Establish relationships and trust with current and potential customers with the goals of securing and expanding business sales.
  • The following critical success factors represent those deemed most critical to be accomplished in year one to ensure success:
  • Successful completion of campaign white papers and customer engagements leading to program award.
  • Assesses and verifies candidate qualifications thoroughly and accurately, recognizing and hiring /promoting those who possess the skills needed to fulfill vacant positions.
  • Solicits feedback from multiple sources during and following task completion related to the assigned product or project to ensure employee tasks are performed correctly and to learn how employee and team performance can be improved.
  • Encourages departmental staff to attend relevant training and workshops to broaden skills explaining why training is relevant to employee's career and improves the performance of the company.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Senior Management.

Education, Experience & License or Certification

  • An undergraduate degree in aerospace, engineering, or other relevant domain, ideally complemented by an advanced degree in business and/or engineering. The successful candidate will ideally bring a strong technical background which would help relative to internal and external credibility with engineering and program management professionals.
  • Training Pre-requisites (Within One Year of Taking Position):
    • ESD
    • Safety Training, as dictated by Safety Department
  • Technical and program leadership on new development efforts with multiple competitors.
  • Technical diligence in head mounted displays and/or optics.
  • Software and hardware integration on complex programs.
  • Experienced in the aerospace, defense, and security industry sectors with previous customer facing roles.
  • A proven track record of successful, win-win complex negotiations.
  • Internationally oriented and experienced. Has ideally represented or interacted with offshore parent companies and is experienced working with international business leaders, both in Israel and abroad. Ideally, brings an understanding of the historic relationship between U.S. and Israel, including currency in Middle East geopolitical and geo-economic affairs.
  • An unblemished record related to his or her ethical integrity and that of the organizations he or she has served.
  • Has an active Secret clearance or can obtain one.

Skills and Abilities

  • Successful experience in directing a business unit with a for-profit company.
  • Ability to implement departmental strategic goals and monitor their progress.
  • Provide thorough, accurate information to answer customers' questions and to meet commitment times or performance guarantees.
  • Actively look for ways to help customers by identifying and proposing appropriate solutions and/or services, adjusting services based on customer feedback.
  • An understanding of how to direct programs & projects through lean manufacturing and good supply chain management.
  • Have an advanced understanding of quality systems that result in quality work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills that include using electronic information for timely decisions.
  • Ability to lead and inspire department staff to accomplish successful business results by working effectively in teams while solving technical problems.
  • Recognized leadership abilities and willingness to take initiative.
  • Willingness to learn and improve.
  • Maintain confidentiality as appropriate about matters encountered in the workplace.
  • Treat managers and peers with respect.

  • Ability to communicate to senior management with suggestions and critical feedback.
  • Advanced knowledge of the defense and military industry with specific knowledge about the customer base for the assigned product.
  • Ability to determine cost and price of products
  • Fundamentals of Accounting with Profit and loss calculations.
  • Choose behaviors and/or actions that best support the team and lead toward the accomplishment of work tasks
  • Effectively change plans, goals, actions or priorities to deal with changing situations, changing gears in response to unpredictable or unexpected events.
  • Be able to develop and generate a number of different approaches to problems.
  • Observe and evaluate the outcomes of implementing the solution to assess the need for alternative approaches and to identify lessons learned.
