Sr. U.S. Benefits Manager (Finance)

Position Overview

This position reports to the Sr. Director, Global Benefits and is a strategic partner on the Global Benefits team. This person is responsible for leading benefits in the US for approximately 4k employees and will have 2 direct reports. This role will work closely with the full global benefits COE team and support other benefits team members who manage US and global benefits programs.

The Global Benefits team supports ~5.5k employees across 19 countries and ensures:

  • We evolve our global benefits offerings in alignment with Work@Yahoo goals and create global efficiencies

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 2 direct reports who support both U.S. and International benefit programs.
  • Responsible for plan management, design, strategy and compliance of U.S. benefit plans which includes all core benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement and perks).
  • Lead US 401(k) Committee meetings and work with plan administrators and investment consultants to provide effective oversight of the Yahoo 401(k) Plan.
  • Responsible for all US ERISA plans annual 5500 filings (health & welfare, retirement and severance), annual audits and related compliance mailings. And responsible for annual ACA required employee reporting for the medical plans.
  • Manage US annual enrollment processes including stakeholder buy-ins on design changes, developing materials and effectively working with US brokers & providers. Prepare employee communication, ensure the design and accuracy of the enrollment system and work with carriers on ensuring accurate benefit enrollment.
  • Responsible for the Executive Deferral Plan (non-qualified retirement plan) including leading the annual enrollment process.
  • Oversee the management of our US benefits vendors/providers, consultant relationships including associated contracts and scope of services. Ensure all external partners are providing the operational & consultative support needed and performing at expected service levels.
  • Maintain knowledge of and analyze government regulations, benefit program trends, and prevailing practices among similar organizations, recommend changes as needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication strategies and ensure all benefit programs are fully understood and appropriately valued by employees.
  • Work effectively with the HR Operations & HR Answers team to ensure OneHR is delivering on superb employee experience.
  • Partner and collaborate with teams across Yahoo (e.g., HRBP's, Payroll, Legal, Communications, People Technology, Facilities, Real Estate, Finance, Procurement etc.) in managing benefit programs.
  • Work closely with IT and Payroll to design and maintain an accurate benefit platform and ensure accurate employee records.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders by responding to inquiries in an accurate, timely, consistent, and professional manner.
  • Compile, analyze and prepare reporting data for various benefit programs including employee, plan financials for strategic benefits planning and evaluation for data driven decision making by senior leadership.
  • Prepare educational employee communications for plan enhancements and/or plan changes in response to state and federal regulatory changes. Partner with internal stakeholders to educate them on plan enhancements and/or plan changes in preparation for employee inquiries.
  • Interprets policies and procedures and serves as a single point of contact for complex employee inquiries.
  • Provide strategic direction and have a strong working knowledge of all US benefit programs.
  • Identify areas of opportunities relating to vendor management, plan management and operations.
  • Support M&A HR activities for any due diligence and/or integration activities as needed.
  • Work with Corporate Finance to develop, recommend and monitor budget allocations for associate benefits.
  • Provide additional support to global benefit team programs such as wellness initiatives, and other HR areas as assigned.

Preferred Experience

  • 8+ years of US benefits which should include self-insured health plans and retirement plans for a mid-size to large company and preferably in the tech sector. 401(k) and 409A plan experience required.
  • 2+ years of experience managing direct reports.
  • Expertise in benefit programs management including administration, compliance, employee education/engagement, data analytics & financials.
  • Experience working in a global company, cross time zones and cross functional teams
  • Project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet all deadlines/deliverables.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal & external partners.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational & project management skills.
  • Strong reporting and data analytics skills. Ability to analyze complex benefits program design.
  • Must be comfortable using Excel or other applications to analyze data. Ability to gather, check and analyze complex information and data and effectively communicate findings.
  • Continuous focus to monitor and create efficiencies, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work collaboratively across internal teams to provide effective customer service to employees.

  • Strong business acumen with ability to engage and inform key stakeholders as needed.
  • Will take the initiative to drive projects forward even under ambiguous circumstances.

The compensation for this position ranges from $110,625.00 - $230,625.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
