Executive Director, Institutional Research/Data Management Officer (DMO) (Finance)



Department: Institutional Research Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
Description:

The Executive Director of Institutional Research/Data Management Officer (DMO) oversees the institutional research and information management implementation of key functions, including research, reporting, information management, and support of University and senior leadership initiatives. This position provides leadership, supervises, and coordinates the strategic operation of the departmental staff including the Data Management Officer and implements effective strategies for data management, governance, and analytics to support the centralized collection, management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data information and evidence for making data informed decisions in compliance with TX 87th Legislature SB475.

Duties:
  • Manages multiple projects concurrently and works collaboratively and/or independently toward project completion.
  • Oversees governance of the University's Data Warehouse. Develops strategic plans for growing and maintaining the university's data warehouse and reporting capabilities.
  • Compiles and analyzes data, and prepares reports in relation to questions, research purposes, and University initiatives for University constituents' decision-making.
  • Supports business analytics, institutional research, mandatory state and federal reporting, strategic planning, and other data-focused decision-support activities.
  • Serves as University's Data Management Officer (per SB475).
  • Prepares and presents research findings and analyses that support institutional decision-making to internal and external audiences.
  • Provides leadership and management for the Office of Institutional Research and oversees it's operations, budget, and resource allocation.
  • Communicates complex and technical information in a clear and concise manner and coaches stakeholders on the use of data to inform actionable decision. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in management information systems, business administration, information technology, or related field.
  2. Minimum ten years progressive experience in management information systems, business administration, information technology, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of State, federal, and accreditation agencies' reporting methods and requirements.
  • Knowledge of concepts pertaining to data management and governance.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Knowledge of data ecosystems from data entry to data warehouses, queries, reports, and dashboards.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Skills in relational databases, including extract, transform, and load processes and testing for data integrity.
  • Skills in business intelligence tools.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information in a clear and concise manner to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to implement excellent organizational skills and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to implement project management concepts to ensure projects' success.
