Job Description Summary

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for managing and processing payroll functions for US and Canada across the organization, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.

What You'll Do

Workday System Management

  • Oversee and maintain the administration, configuration, and maintenance of the Workday HRIS payroll module. This includes ensuring the system meets organizational needs, supports growth, and adheres to compliance, as well as managing upgrades and integrations. The role serves as a subject matter expert for Workday, maintaining data integrity and troubleshooting issues. Partners with HRIS team to maintain payroll systems and configuration.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

Payroll Operations Management

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payment across US and Canada while adhering to local laws. This involves implementing policies and processing transaction while managing the daily workflow of the department. Accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Administers annual end of year and W-2, T-4 processes.
  • High focus on process development and improvement and creation of documentation to support workflow and responsibilities, focusing on efficiency and employee experience. Develop training materials for Workday payroll functionalities may also be required.
  • Partners with our third-party payroll processer on data requirements and will own validation/audit processes.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance and best practices to federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, prepare required reports and filings, and conduct internal audits. Staying current on regulatory changes is also crucial.  
  • Register with tax agencies to establish employer accounts for state income tax, SUI, and local withholdings as required.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead the payroll team, foster collaboration with other departments, and serve as a key point of contact for payroll inquiries and escalations. Primary liaison between Finance, Tax and HR Partner teams on payroll items.
  • Maintains payroll staff by training, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results for payroll team and supporting partners where applicable.

Knowledge/Skills/Background/Experience

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience
  • Certified Payroll Professional, “CPP” Preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, audit, and payroll taxes.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information, take appropriate action and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent customer service mindset and commitment to issue resolution.

Compensation

The estimated salary range for this role is $98,000 - $132,000, along with eligibility to earn an annual bonus. Actual salaries may vary based on several factors, such as a candidate's qualifications, skills and experience.
