Director, Service Area HR Consulting (Finance)



Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Director, Service Area HR Consulting to join our Human Resources department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington D.C. with a hybrid work model.

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 700,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Reporting to the CHRO, the Director, Service Area HR Consulting will act as a strategic advisor and HR consultant to physicians and physician leadership on human resource-related matters across all three service areas: Northern Virginia (NOVA), Washington D.C. and Suburban Maryland (DCSM), and Baltimore (BALT). You will provide oversight of the HR Service Area Consulting teams in the three service areas, serve as a strategic partner to the service area physician leadership team, and focus on HR strategy, consulting services and activities, special projects, and HR professional development.

You can expect to:

  • Manage Physician Human Resources Consultants (PHRCs) across all service areas and lead a team of HR Consultants and HR Generalists. Oversee performance, resource allocation, and provide continuous feedback to ensure effective delivery of HR initiatives that are aligned with organizational needs.Collaborate with PHRCs, CHRO, and physician leadership to develop and execute a physician HR consulting strategy that supports continuous evolution of physician HR strategies, policies, and programs that meet changing organizational needs.
  • Lead special projects assigned by the CHRO and/or Physician-in-Chief. Gather stakeholder input, develop comprehensive project plans, and delegate tasks to ensure successful execution.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to physicians and physician leaders, including coaching, counseling, career development, and performance management. Partner with physicians to enhance work relationships, build morale, and enhance the physician experience and retention.
  • Manage complex employee relations issues and conduct thorough investigations. Maintain current knowledge of employment laws to minimize legal risk and ensure compliance, partnering with legal and HR leadership as needed.
  • Identify training and executive coaching needs across departments. Provide coaching, counseling, and professional development support to Service Area HR Consulting teams. Establish and uphold customer service standards and hold team members accountable for delivering high-quality HR services.

What is required:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field is required; Master's degree in HR or a related field preferred.
  • Current certification in professional coaching from ICF or similar accredited institution strongly preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive HR leadership experience with a proven ability to lead complex initiatives and drive strategic outcomes.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and consulting skills, with experience managing and mentoring diverse teams to foster collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
  • Proven success working with a wide range of stakeholders, including executive leaders , local leadership and cross-functional teams, to drive HR initiatives and organizational outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to elicit cooperation and navigate complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with HRIS systems such as UKG; experience with clinical information systems is a plus.
  • Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. office as needed. Must be able to commute to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in the Mid-Atlantic area as needed.
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $152,776.24 to $ $190,970.12, depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
