Project Manager 1 - Battery Development (Finance)



Overview

We are seeking a full-time Project Manager 1 Engineering in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will serve the engineering department as a facilitator of battery development and sourcing with external vendors.

Essential Functions

  • Learns and applies project management skills on small to medium size engineering projects of average complexity, seeking input from mentor and/or supervisor as needed
  • Learns basic product domain, understands established processes and how to use them
  • Supports process improvement activities
  • Drives assigned project to closure, learns good judgment in identifying issues and risks, mitigation plans and when to escalate issues to mentor or direct supervisor for direction
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain clear project status, documentation, and reporting within small to mid-size projects with established tools
  • Learns communication skills, including effective listening, responding appropriately and managing difficult conversations
  • Builds relationships and learns to gain alignment with project team
  • Learns to solve conflicts through understanding of interdependencies of and development of effective relationships between the development team(s)
  • Learns the ability to lead effective and efficient team meetings
  • Ensures team members/stakeholders are appropriately informed of project scope, schedule and cost
  • Learns project ownership with high involvement from Team Leader/Mentor, learning to act as contact for project needs
  • Understands Garmin's Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed
  • Manages vendor relationships
  • Assesses technical requirements for appropriate vendor selection and RFQ
  • Facilitates specification negotiation and trade-offs between vendor and engineering teams
  • Tracks and reports battery development including schedule tracking, sample deliveries, and test results
  • Tracks and submits vendor purchase requests for battery development
  • Battery testing and verification
  • Possible business travel when required
  • Willing to work outside of core hours as needed
  • Participates in internal and external audits as needed
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in a technical discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn how to use and apply engineering and project management tools
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, work well with others, have excellent time management, organizational and follow-up skills
  • Computer skills in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint) or similar
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with battery technology and chemistry
  • Experience with Confluence/JIRA
  • Experience working with outside vendors
