Project Data Analyst (Finance)



Summary/Objective:
J.W. Bamford, Inc. is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Project Data Analyst to support budgeting, production data analysis, and cost research for our projects in logging, firefighting, debris removal, and road construction. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to improve project efficiencies, optimize costs, and support strategic decision-making. This role requires strong financial acumen, technical proficiency, and the ability to work across multiple disciplines.
Essential Functions:
· Uses statistical methods, modeling, analytical methodologies, and data analysis to develop reports and models to inform project planning and bidding costs.
· Reviews, reconciles, and analyzes data to ensure financial integrity of information reported and identification of trends.
· Monitors reports to ensure data quality. Processes, enhances, and acquires technical skills to work with database and business intelligence systems.
· Develop simple and reliable ways to gather production data for logging, debris removal, and road construction projects, ensuring the information is accurate and consistent.
· Analyze data to understand efficiency, resource use, and performance trends, spotting area where operations can improve.
· Build easy-to-read reports and dashboards to assist management make informed data-driven decisions.
· Create customized reports, visualizations, and presentations for project managers and executives.
· Use Excel, SQL, Power BI, or other analytics tools to present insights clearly and effectively.
· Develop automated reports and dashboards to streamline data access and improve decision-making.
· Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and field supervisors to ensure accurate data collection.
· Provided data-driven insights to support contact negotiations, project planning, and operational improvements.
· Plan and collect data to track production metrics, focusing on logging methods, terrain, and area worked such as acres per day and other key performance indicators.
· Track all contract changes and communicate any changes to Bid Team Leader, Project Accountant, and CFO.
· Inform project stakeholders of date changes, potential cost issues, and overruns.

Work Environment:

Typical office environment with extensive daily usage of a computer or workstation.
Sitting for prolonged periods of time using a computer keyboard, mouse, and screen.
Mobility, vision, hearing, and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.

Physical Demands - The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.
Must be able to hear and speak on the telephone.
Close visual work on a computer.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

Travel Required:

Position travels outside the local area but usually within Northern California 25% of the time.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, mathematics, project management, or finance. or 3-5 years proven equivalent experience preferably within forestry, logging, construction, or related industries.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel (including VLookups, Pivot tables, spreadsheet data merge).

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

Valid Driver's License.
May be required to drive personal vehicle to multiple worksites during the workday. Proof of current/active automobile insurance if driving personal vehicle.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Cellphone for communication, scheduling, and time-card entries.

Benefit Conditions:
