Environmental Underwriting Professional (Finance)



Job Objectives: Manage and grow a portfolio of environmental casualty insurance products through strategic business relationships with wholesaler and retailer brokers. Utilize your business acumen and underwriting skills to develop pricing and negotiate terms and conditions in order to build a profitable book of business.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Underwrite new and renewal environmental casualty products (general liability combined with site pollution, contractor's pollution, and contractor's professional, commercial auto, supported and unsupported excess) and negotiation of policy terms and conditions while adhering to Allied World Environmental Underwriting Guidelines.

·       Broker distribution: strategically develop broker relationships to generate new business opportunities and manage existing accounts.

·       Prepare quotes, binders, referrals, and document underwriting files in compliance with company guidelines.

·       Develop and manage positive and effective working relationships with a commitment to service for all stakeholders (brokers, insureds, and internal personnel) leading to high customer satisfaction. 

·       Coordinate and perform regular marketing calls, account stewardship meetings, and events to promote Allied World product offerings.  Participate in local professional organizations and engage with existing and prospective insureds and brokers on key developments in the marketplace.

·       Continue professional development through relevant training courses, continuing education, and/or seminars.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 0-5 years of experience underwriting casualty insurance products including general liability, commercial auto, and excess liability policies working with both retail and wholesale brokers.
  • Basic knowledge with environmental liability products including Site Pollution Liability, Contractors Pollution Liability and Professional Liability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with both internal and external contacts.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong business and relationship management skills to develop new business opportunities, retain renewal accounts and establish long term strategic broker relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and desk management skills with ability to work independently and demonstrate effective prioritization of workload.
  • CPCU, CRIS, or ARM, designations preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Approximately 25% travel required.
