In the Helping Hand position, you will play a key role in improving the quality of life for our residents while providing support for our nursing team. Excellent customer service, attention to detail and a caring disposition is a must for this position. You will assist residents with daily activities and tasks while providing companionship and personalized care (without providing direct patient care), while under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The ability to effectivity and efficiently communicate resident needs to the appropriate team member is essential. This program is offered to applicants interested in pursuing a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and working in our Long Term Care facility. Job Duties and Responsibilities · Provide a pleasant, positive and calm environment for residents. · Assist with preparing the dining areas for meal times, and keep the dining room clean. · Provide assistance in activities of daily living that do not require direct care to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality. · Keep resident room neat and tidy, to include making beds and changing bed linens as needed. · Handles, inventories, and protects resident belongings. · Offer verbal encouragement to residents during meals. · Observe residents' physical, mental and emotional conditions and reports any changes to the nursing team. · Perform visual one on one observation of residents as required. · Respond to all call lights promptly and courteously in facilities with call lights. Keep call light within reach of non-ambulatory resident when unattended. · Provide residents with one on one interaction while interact with the residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment. · Transport and escort residents as necessary for appointments such as at the beauty shop, attending activities, doctor appointments, or church services. · Any delegated tasks that do not include direct patient care and do not require certification and/or licensure. · Commitment to scheduled work hours to ensure consistency for the residents and team. · Work effectively with general supervision, ability to organize and manage own work load in a busy environment with some independent actions are required. · Ability to communicate well with residents and families promoting customer service and a supportive environment. · Must maintain a calm and warm working environment with team members. · Meet the physical job demands of the position Job Requirements and Qualifications · Must be at least 16 years of age. · Must be willing to attend nursing assistant training classes at time of hire. · Must be able to effectively read and write. · Minimum experience of one (1) year in geriatric care preferred. · Failure to complete nursing assistant training classes will result in end of employment. · High School degree or equivalent (GED) preferred · Ability to obtain CPR Certification · Ability to obtain DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card · High level of patience, empathy, and compassion · Excellent observation and communication skills · Basic computer skills · Physical and mental stamina; ability to work long hours on one's feet · Physically able to stand and move during the length of shift; able to twist, bend and kneel through shift Working Hours 12 hour shifts as scheduled. CNA Program Each program runs 8 weeks with approximately 180 hours of classroom and clinical instruction. Weekly evaluations are completed and reviewed with each trainee to review their progress in meeting the program objectives, goals and learning the required resident care skills. A minimum score of 75% on daily quizzes and the final written exam as well as a minimum score of 80% on the final skills exam is required to maintain enrollment in the class. CNA training includes the education and skills to work as a CNA assisting residents with everyday tasks, such as bathing, getting dressed, eating meals, and going to the restroom. CNA work is physically and often emotionally demanding. You must be able to maintain a calm and warm working environment with team members. Upon successful completion of the program, an Arizona State examiner will test each trainee on clinical skills and a written test is required. While awaiting the state test results, the trainee is able to work with a mentor on their assigned unit. This mentorship program pairs you up with an experienced CNA to make a smooth transition from "trainee" to CNA and to introduce you to the fun and collaborative nursing team you'll be a part of. Class hours and opportunity for working hours will vary. A commitment to scheduled class hours and dedication to completion of assigned homework to ensure your success in the class is required. Upon certification, you will move into the CNA position. All CNA's within the facilities are required to the work one of the following: day/evening shift rotation, day/night shift rotation, straight evenings or straight nights. Every other weekend and holiday rotation is also required.
