Business Excellence Packaging Engineer II (Maintenance)

Position Overview:
As a Business Excellence Packaging Engineer II, you will lead packaging development and optimization initiatives across high-speed food and beverage manufacturing lines. This role focuses on improving packaging performance, reducing material costs, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and sustainability standards. You will work closely with suppliers, operations, procurement, and quality teams to deliver innovative, efficient, and reliable packaging solutions for a wide range of materials and formats.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the design, testing, and implementation of primary and secondary packaging solutions including bottles, cans, cups, film, paperboard, corrugate, glue systems, and plastic components.
· Optimize packaging line performance by analyzing material interactions, equipment capabilities, and process flow in high-speed environments.
· Collaborate with suppliers to define and maintain packaging specifications, quality standards, and performance expectations.
· Evaluate and approve packaging materials and components through structured testing protocols (e.g., ISTA, shelf-life, line trials).
· Support procurement and legal teams in developing and managing supplier contracts, including technical requirements, tolerances, and service level agreements.
· Drive cost savings and sustainability initiatives through material lightweighting, design simplification, and waste reduction.
· Troubleshoot packaging-related issues on the production floor and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and product loss.
· Maintain accurate documentation including packaging specifications, change control records, and validation reports.
· Ensure packaging compliance with food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA), internal quality standards, and customer requirements.
Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
· Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in packaging engineering within a high-speed food or beverage manufacturing environment.
· Strong knowledge of packaging materials and systems including rigid and flexible formats (bottles, cans, cups, film, paperboard, corrugate, adhesives).
· Experience working with packaging suppliers on specifications, quality expectations, and contract terms.
· Familiarity with packaging machinery and line integration in high-speed production environments.
· Proficiency in packaging design software and testing methodologies.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
· Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
· Willingness to work flexible hours or off-shifts to support production and packaging trials.
Hours, Location and Pay:
We offer a competitive base pay rate and comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees. This role works standard business hours Monday - Friday at either our Little Chute or Neenah, WI manufacturing facility. Occasional off-shift or weekend hours may be required to support business needs.
Physical and Mental Demands:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, hear, use hands to type data, use a personal computer and telephone. This employee may occasionally have to operate business machines and lift and/move up to 50 pounds.
