The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is to provide direct nursing care to the residents, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.

• Comply with mandatory reporting policies, procedures, and guidelines regarding changes in resident condition, accidents, incidents, injuries, resident and family complaints, as instructed by your supervisor.
• Ensure that personnel are trained for use of unit equipment and perform drug administration duties such as preparing and administering medications, monitoring and reporting needs for floor stock medication, supplies, and equipment, reviewing MAR's, and notifying attending physicians of automatic stop orders.
• Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as required.
• Advocate for resident rights by maintaining confidentiality of care information and reporting all allegations of resident abuse immediately to the Charge Nurse/ADON in compliance with department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Maintain specialty care for bed-fast residents and observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers (bedsores).
• Participate in the implementation and maintenance of the infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among the residents and personnel, adhering to isolation precautions as necessary and follow established policies regarding emergency preparedness, occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.
