Job Description:

Job Title: Operator (Mars Petcare / Fort Smith, AR)

Shift Details: Days

• Lines 1-6: 8-hour straight shift, rotating from Monday-Friday one week and Tuesday-Saturday the next week.

• Lines 7-10: 12-hour straight shift, operating on a 2-2-3-day rotation.

The primary responsibility of this role is to load production materials into the main equipment used in the manufacture of pet food, ensuring compliance with corporate quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Safety Standards: Maintain safety protocols by implementing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and confined space entry procedures while working in the primary area of the factory.

• Material Loading: Load production materials into the primary piece of equipment, adhering to corporate quality and safety standards in pet food manufacturing.

• Product Changeovers: Assist in product changeovers on the primary equipment as needed.

• Team Communication: Effectively communicate with team members to prevent downtime and quality issues.

• Equipment Operation: Assist in operating equipment during breaks and lunches or as required.

• Quality Compliance: Ensure adherence to Mars Petcare Quality and Food Safety Practices, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and other regulatory standards to produce a quality product.

• Documentation: Document quality attributes and provide production data for shift reports.

• Quality and Food Safety Responsibility: Uphold the responsibility for quality and food safety as part of this position and as a site associate.

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

• Equipment Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of the operation of the primary piece of equipment in the area.

• Production Processes: Knowledge of production processes relevant to pet food manufacturing.

• Troubleshooting Ability: Capability to assist and troubleshoot issues with the primary equipment.

• Quality Checks: Competence in assisting with quality checks and documenting results using a database collection system.

• Food Manufacturing Experience: Prior experience in food manufacturing and knowledge of food safety practices.

• Good Manufacturing Practices: Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Preferred Skills

• Food Manufacturing Experience: Previous experience in food manufacturing with a strong understanding of food safety.

• GMP Knowledge: Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.

• Forklift Certification: Certification to operate a forklift is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

• Experience: 2+ years of manufacturing experience.

• Physical Ability: Capability to lift 50 pounds.

• Response Ability: Ability to respond quickly to operational needs.

• Computer Skills: Proficient in computer use, with the ability to enter, record, maintain, and retrieve data effectively.
