Benefits Specialist (Finance)



Benefits Specialist

The Benefits Specialist administers benefit programs, including retirement programs and  FMLA by maintaining employee database; responding to requests; interpreting policies and  procedures; researching problems; providing information; and establishing and maintaining a  working relationship with the company's benefit providers. The position also serves as the  company's wellness contact through creating and implementing programs for the purpose of  educating and engaging employees in healthy lifestyle choices.

What you'll be doing:

  • Benefits:

o Responsible for benefits administration, including new hire enrollment, open enrollment and benefit changes.

o Create, manage and update all employee benefit changes and adjustments in HRS.

o Oversight of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) – directing employees to leave management system.

o Ensure federal and state compliance of all leaves, including certification of FMLA leaves.

o Resolve employee questions and problems regarding benefits by researching benefit policies and procedures, providing answers to questions and resolutions to problems.

o Reconcile benefit accounts using reports; complete cleanup of all benefit accounts including communication to the employee

o Acts as intermediary between employees and benefits manager

o Help employees understand benefit programs through a variety of communication types, including, but not limited to one-on-one meetings and emails.

o Create or develop knowledge building resources such as: announcements, booklets, pamphlets, as well as trainings or seminars.

o Responsible for conducting benefit overviews for potential employees as requested.

o Work with Benefits Manager during open enrollment to ensure a smooth enrollment for employees

o Assists with filing Worker's Compensation Claims; works with comp carrier regarding

employee return to work

o Assists with various projects and other duties as assigned

  • Wellness:

o Assist in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of wellness activities year-round to promote healthy lifestyles for employees, such as flu shots, healthy living programs and tobacco cessation programs.

o Track participation in wellness-related activities.

o Schedule wellness programs, coordinating presentations, classes, seminars.

o Assist in maintenance of the wellness budget

o Respond to all wellness benefit inquires.

  • Maintains accurate administrative and employee files.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to simplify health benefits processes and procedures and to integrate best practices.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:

  • 1-3 years of benefit and wellness program administration
  • Knowledge of benefits and retirement programs (including applicable state and federal laws and regulations).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
